It's insane, especially considering Koepka already won $2 million from the Wyndham regular-season deal and the rest of the top 5 made at least $1 million. Cartoonish money doesn't attract eyeballs.

    Agreed on the "playoffs."

NAScrap tried it, and it doesn't work.

Why the PGA Tour had to follow suit escapes me ... unless the sponsor (insert shameless plug here) said the tour wasn't getting the money any other way.

Funny ... Formula 1 and the English Premier League don't do this crap. Funnier still, people follow it.

I really like the new format. But yeah, the "playoffs" are only going to get people like me who are going to watch regardless. Unless Tiger is in the mix.

The one downside of the new sprint schedule, from the PGA Tour/ratings perspective, is less Tiger as he takes time off in an attempt to remain healthy.

That would be the case under the old schedule, too. He'll play more before the Masters, then less through the other three majors. A cold wet PGA, easily possible in May, might see him WD.

I meant that I wonder if writers are ever able to get golfer to really open up about their struggles, or if writers are able to examine and pinpoint why they are struggling.

Formula 1 and the Premiership don't have to develop a reason to keep their product compelling against the NFL. I'm not saying it's a good idea by any means, but both were getting swallowed whole in September and October before this started.

Loved a suggestion from one of the tour pros: Skins Game weeks. First 100 guys to put in $18,000 entry fee. $100,000 available on every hole. Lowest score or ties plays off for the money left over. Nobody's laying up or playing to the center of the green if an albatross or hole-in-one lands them a skin.

The Premier League plays a true double round robin. A playoff would be completely unnecessary. Plus, there are so many other concurrent competitions going on -- FA Cup, Carabao, Europa, Champions League, international breaks -- that it would also be unfeasible.

I'll cling to the idea that if you're hosting a PGA Tour "playoff" you make it a true playoff. Top 125 from the regular season make it to the first week and the top 70 in that tournament advance, and then the top 30 from the next tournament advance to Atlanta. Koepka has a bad week at the Northern Trust? Too fucking bad. UVa had a bad day against UMBC and didn't get a chance to continue. That's the whole point of a playoff. Of course the PGA Tour would never sign on because it needs some semblance of guaranteed star power at East Lake.

If you can just take the tournaments for what they are -- great fields on (mostly) excellent courses -- then it's fine. But you have to watch them on mute because the points talk is so obnoxious. And if Rory wins the first event they'll crank up the storyline of him possibly winning POY over Koepka if he sweeps the FedExCup, which is also obnoxious.

This is going to go heads up against the Little League WS in a few weeks, right?

Which one will get better ratings?

Woods' back was barking during Wednesday's practice. Does not bode well for him making it to the weekend.

Wait. You’re on a beach...listening to golf play by play?

    You should seek counseling.
