She can. She has made it to 3 finals. It’s not like she’s getting dusted in the 2nd round. But the US Open is going to be the toughest. The court is unforgiving on your legs. It’s awfully hot and requires the most stamina. Serena needs to get leaner and be more nimble. She looked anchored today.

Proving that Ben Wright was right (just about the wrong sport), Halep had breast reduction surgery many years ago.

What did you expect. If Tiger loses the Open next weekend in a playoff with some worthy figure of the Euro Tour, Matt Wallace, say, who do you suppose will be mentioned first in the ledes of every US media outlet?

Donny in his element and Webster like this.

"On Saturday, Serena Williams, the closest thing America has to a superhero, suffered a staggering defeat to Simona Halep, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, keeping Williams from winning her 24th title."
You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Simona

Halep is a lot better than Matt Wallace.

She was the seventh seed. Quick now, what percentage of US sports fans had heard of her before today. She won the French last year. She's a fine player. But sports stories lead with the star and always will.

If you are using the Tiger analogy, it would be like if he lost that Open playoff to Francisco Molinari

She has held the No. 1 ranking for 64 weeks, three times longer than Maria Sharapova ever held it and almost six times longer than Venus Williams ever held it.

Her accomplishments do not address my question in that post.

Well, certainly the ones that use Doug Ferguson’s story. :)

LONDON --- Serena Williams deposited quite a few balls into the net on Saturday.
She did not, however, deposit any down the fucking throats of any lines people, which perhaps was the bright spot in her otherwise desultory 6-2, 6-2 loss at the hands of Simona Halep in the women's final at Wimbledon.
