Shes been a media star since she won the primary. She's been a great story ever since. Daughter of immigrants who worked as a bartender until running for congress. She won. 29, single attractive woman. And the republicans and state run media and their surrogates have attempted to insult and demean her using every Hispanic and gender slur they can muster on twitter and she's responded extremely well. But what makes her a real 21st century media star is the rapidity of her responses. Trump has been able to insult, demean and demagogue everyone and every issue and the media covers the insults. His Republicans primary opponents were unable and unwilling to respond appropriately and quickly. The democrats too. By the time they did respond, the media was covering trump's newest boorish tirade.
AOC responds with burning wit. Her ability to do so quickly makes her response the story more than the original insult. You never hear that Rush or Hannity or Fox has stung AOC, what you hear and see is AOC's response to their jabs. And her counter punches are effective theater, which it makes it a better story. Her counter-punches are also smart. She has proved that she's both smart and adept at the policies which she choose to engage in, but she has a good staff. Never forget, the media wants a story, not fair and equitable coverage of a fight.

Where she will get into trouble is that she is attacked by a variety of antagonists, but she is the response. Soon she will be seen as nothing more than a quip artist, if only because the media will tire of the story and look for a new narrative. The media doesnt give a shit about the her substance on policy issues. Whether or not she has a full serving of meat is immaterial to State Run Media, the Objective media or the opposition media. If all of them cared about a full serving of meat, trump would be playing golf in scotland with russian whores instead of playing golf in Florida with Asian whores.

Trump is ranting about McCain right now in Ohio - because that's what laid off autoworkers need to hear.

There’s been a considerable effort to downplay her prominence in the party and her representative status of it.

I’m not saying she should be or will always be. Maybe she’s another Howard Dean. But she has more name recognition right now that Obama had after two years in Congress! That’s not nothing.

And, yes, right wing media has leveraged her popularity against the party. The party allowed that to happen. So did the mainstream media. What’s she doing on 60 Minutes, for goodness sakes? Why’s she bringing the Green New Deal to the table within weeks of joining Congress? It’s functional equivalent of a reporter right out of college leading a yearlong investigative project on corruption in government.

To me, it’s a marker that the party is so broken into tiny pockets of grievance that very little is going to get done. The GOP fell apart over the Freedom Caucus and delivered Trump.

I think she is great for the party, as long as she has a long view and understands her role. She sets out a marker to the left. She makes an effective, rational and smart case for the new progressive left movement. She's not black. That is a big deal. She brings climate change and workers rights and economic rights into the debate instead of the tired affirmative action debate and 'civil rights' of the old liberal wing. The right is geared to step on the old liberal ideas spouting from African Americans and their white guilt liberal friends. The right has prepackaged and well worked jackbooted responses that have been effective. They can't deal with her. They slam the Green New Deal. Catchy name, no one has read it. The right is reactionary in its opposition only because she said it.

What AOC needs to understand is that she marks the leftward swing on the pendulum, let the democratic candidates moderate her views. She makes them more centrist and they can portray trump and right as out of the mainstream. For a long time the right has dictated field position. AOC is like a great punter, she puts the ball on the other side of the field. As long as she doesnt rail too hard against the moderate voices of the party (bernie style), the democrats can succeed in reshaping the debate. The left needs a more unifying voice for their principles. A moderately progressive FoxNews-style water carrier.

    BadgerBeer-
Kellyanne is a public liar, first of all.
Dumb Donald, among other things, was schooled in the arts of professional wrestling.
Maybe they have a marriage where they like to play these sorts of games on people. I've seen weirder.
I listened to one of George's podcasts several months ago. Seems amiable and smart enough, but he was circumspect in his criticisms.
Like he was afraid to run his mouth. But of course on fuckin Twitter everyone is Conan the Barbarian.
I just don't buy any of it.
We are all being played- don't play along.
