It shouldn't be a right-left thing, but it is. Forums like The_Donald on Reddit have breathlessly shared any item - true or false - that made Smollett look like he was lying. Same with the vocal right wing extremists on Twitter like Jacob Wohl and faux news organizations like Breitbart. These people have an audience, and they're using it to spread an agenda before the case is done being investigated.

I think this came up on the politics thread and basically every comment was , “sounds sketchy, will wait and see before getting worked up or not.”

Now, as the story continues to unravel, I do wonder if the media will seek responses from those on the left who jumped in head first to condemn trump’s america and tweeted justice for Jussie. That includes at least one person running for President (Harris), one Congresswoman (aoc) and sjws (sharpton and Shaun king).

I’ve followed this story since day one. The traditional media has been very smart on this, for the most part. Chicago PD has handled it extremely well too.

Don’t know why this would be on the Trump thread.

It's the politics thread. And you made this thread about politics in the opening post.

That thread is a catch all too often.

This is its own thing. And it’s turned strange. It was already sad.

    No he didn’t.

Kaepernick is its own thread. Has been for a long time. And that’s far more political than this.

Which is why people can't keep up with the thread and d_b all over the place, exacerbating the problem. Any divisive story (Covington kids, Jussie Smollett) automatically gets stamped as "Trump's America", and into the politics thread it goes.

The only reason the Kaepernick thread exists is because it was started before the 2016 election.

"Covington Catholic kids a bunch of raging racists ... well, not hardly."

The minute he brought them into the discussion, he made this political.

You like to talk all the time about Twitter. How is Twitter handling this discussion?

    OK.

Twitter has handled the discussion on Smollet poorly. It really quite something to behold, too, on both sides.

It's being fueled by local reporters allowing themselves to be used by detectives with an agenda.

They don't take any steps to verify what these detectives are feeding them, they just run with it as "sources said."

And Chicago detectives don't exactly have the best record when it comes to race.

But yes, it would be nice if Shaun King would shut the fuck up for once and let a situation play out for a minute before jumping in feet first.
