Kaepernick would instantly become the only reason to watch that league.

The headline is a little misleading. Stern wasn't exactly endorsing Kaepernick's protest there. He was saying (correctly) the NFL screwed up by not shutting it down immediately like he did with Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, and if they had then it wouldn't have escalated to this point.

I don't know what his income sources are these days - but if he went to the AAF and didn't light it up, or got hurt - it isn't just his football career that is over, but his image as a civil rights hero. He can probably live off of speaking gigs the rest of his life about standing up (or kneeling) for something you believe in regardless of the risk. The longer he's been out of the league - the better he was as a QB and the more he has sacrificed. An 88.9 career passer rating is in the Derek Carr/Andy Dalton zone, but ahead of Cam Newton, Eli Manning and Matthew Stafford. He's a pretty solid second-tier guy but nothing more.

    Maybe.

Makes sense if you look at the earnings both gave up - and then add damages.
