"We are going to strongarm you into trading your best player."

"OK. You know there's no reason for us to do this now, right?"

"Yeah, we know, but you should trade him to us now."

"OK. You need to make it worth our while, then."

"THIS SHALL NOT STAND! GOOD DAY, SIR!

They are SHOCKED New Orleans' isn't jumping at the opportunity of trading their MVP candidate for minimal returns. I guess they asked for 4-6 first round draft picks plus everything else.

I’m about the five millionth persom to say this, but if you’re New Orleans you have to wait for the Celtics. Even if they don’t become the partner, you need their offer in the mix.

If I'm another team in the West, I enter the sweepstakes if only to make the Lakers gut their roster.

Dubs (Hi, Dick!) should trade Boogie + Durant to them for Davis.

They do it in baseball and football (when a rare trade happens.) If you've got an asset that you're going to send out, its awfully short-sighted to risk injury, you've got to protect the asset.

As for waiting, let's be realistic, if you're the Lakers, the longer you get Davis, the more use you get out of him. Everyone assumes that what's here now will always be available later. Maybe not. What if the centerpiece, say Ingram blows his knee out (hope not)? Uh oh. It happens.

AD is a major asset, but he's not the only option. What if the Celtics decide to do a sign and trade for Kawhi or Cousins or Durant instead? Or what if the Celtics happen to win it all this year and decide not to mess with a good thing (Tatum and Kyrie co-MVPs!). Now the Pelicans are SOL. You can assume all you want about the Celtics presumed offer but its not etched in stone.

I seriously doubt the Pelicans are worried about suitors come July.
