    I'm a Hokie, but I grew up following the Hoos when they were at the peak, including that run to No. 1. Always seemed like a class act. RIP.

    Arguably the most important figure in UVA sports history. He's up there with Bill Snyder in terms of turning football laughingstocks into (while he was there, at least) consistent winners.

    Fun fact: His son designed the V-sabres logo still in use at UVA.

    To win consistently at both Navy and UVa Welsh had to be even better than outstanding IMO.

    He was an outstanding football coach, obviously, and a really impressive person beside that. But he was super quiet, and not the type to boast or put the spotlight on himself. He would have been successful anywhere you put him. Just a hard working, smart football coach who tried to do things without taking short cuts. His ex-players, almost across the board, really genuinely respected him.
