Maybe not so much the spread, but running more spread option. Jordan Jefferson was a pretty good runner and it seemed like he wanted to turn him into a dropback passer. It worked until they played Alabama -- the 2011 team was an all-time great team -- but that glaring weakness was exposed.
Jarrett Lee showed some flashes of potential as a dropback passer but never got on the field enough to work through his mistakes (and, to be fair, Jefferson offered them a better chance to win when they had the opportunity to win big).
Jennings and Harris seemed similar. They should have been running more option with them instead of, as you noted, trying to have them do the things Mettenberger (a standard pocket passer) was doing.
The knock on Miles always was that whatever success his QBs had, they developed under someone else. Jamarcus Russell and Matt Flynn were Saban recruits he inherited. Mettenberger was a transfer. None of the others, despite being highly rated coming out of high school (Harris and Jennings were both 4-star recruits; he also turned 5-star QB/RB/WR Russell Shepard into a complete bust) ever amounted to anything. Some of that might have been on them, maybe they were overrated or had a bad work ethic that wasn't visible from the outside looking in, but it still falls on the coach to make chicken salad out of chicken shit with them.

I think the folks in Boone will be pleased with him.

He brought a lot to the offensive playbook from Boise to Raleigh. But, in all fairness, he did that with Ryan Finley behind center. Not exactly Philip Rivers, but pretty good.

What can he do with the talent recruited to Boone? Stay Tuned ...

Not mentioned here yet but Manny Diaz was announced as the new HC at Temple, which is slowly building itself a damn respectable program.

It takes a strong program to keep moving good coaches up the ladder. Geoff Collins, Matt Rhule, Al Golden and Steve Addazio quickly come to mind.

Manny Diaz was tabbed for greatness when he was on Chuck Amato's staff 15 years ago in Raleigh. Then was considered on Mack's staff in Austin. Really don't know why his star dimmed and it took until now for him to get a shot. But ... given Temple's track record ...

His Texas D had their worst year ever when he was in charge.

Guess they won’t be playing Penn State much anymore.

Not trying to troll you, but they’re relatively close to Pitt at this point.

Not a troll at all because I've said it to guys I've tailgated with. In fact, Temple's attendance continues to trend upward each season while Pitt's stagnates.

Pitt better wake the hell up. And fast.

Gary Andersen returns as Utah State head football coach

Don't look now, but the Mountain West:

With a Las Vegas Bowl win, Jeff Tedford (winningest coach in Cal history) will have turned Fresno State from 1-11 to 12 wins...a school-record...in two years.

Rocky Long has 71 wins in eight seasons at San Diego State

Boise State is still Boise State.

Now the superior of BYU, Utah State looks to have even more potential.
