Tarik El-Bashir will be covering the Caps. Tarik has a long history with covering the team, but I'd rather read Isabelle Kurshudyan.

And he wrote a nice, thoughtful column about why newspapers are still important and what they need to do to survive in the digital age...which somebody posted along with a video from a year and a half ago.

Hope he got paid and at least a two year guarantee.

There are some bad times coming down the pike for newspapers in the next five months.

I am glad they are starting to hire more editors.

Lisa Wilson, formerly of The Buffalo News and The Undefeated, is going to be The Athletic's NFL managing editor. (APSE is starting to retweet a bunch of her new reporters.)

I saw Lindsay Jones was leaving USA Today for the Athletic too. They are going all in on their NFL coverage, which is a good thing considering I think they are half-assing college football in a few ways.

I had heard about some of the likely hires for Athletic Miami and it's going to be a very good group. Jorge running the show isn't a bad thing either.

Could The Athletic be dropping a bigger bomb on local newspapers. Hiring away what 15? beat writers weeks before the regular season kicks off.
