Last I checked, those reporters weren't in the board rooms deciding to make bad financial investments and they sure as fuck weren't in the corporate offices when someone decided that 7 p.m. deadlines to get the print product out were a wonderful idea.

So, let's turn the question around: why did the corporate evil-doers have to resort to such drastic deadlines, if they had such a wonderfully performing product with all these veteran, talented reporters? Shouldn't their amazing, hot-selling work have created such a financial buffer that they didn't need to resort to cutting costs?

202o? Way to go out on a limb, Lenny Dykstra. Hey, why should I doubt the Athletic, though, right? I mean, they have SO MUCH MONEY behind them? And it's not like anyone has ever lost their asses on sports media ventures (oh hello ESPN city sites, hello Sports on Earth, hello Landof10).

My theory is someone who used to work at Digital First who now is at The Athletic must have kicked his/her dog. Can’t figure out what else it would be.

You need to find some solace by seeking jobs that don't exist on the jobs board.
