    I think the OP was looking for words that are entirely unnecessary to the language, as opposed to not needed in a particular context. I find the former more interesting.

    Everything listed so far I agree with.

    Other words/phrases that bother me: That. Rushed to the hospital. Transported. Motorist. The misuse of murder. Different. The shortening of nicknames. Lady/Ladies.

    And I hate adverbs. Not necessary 99 percent of the time. Mostly.

    I had an editor recently point out that I use the word "just" a lot. As in, "it was just the second time..." He's right. A tic I developed somewhere along the way. It's almost always unnecessary.

    I am making this confession to spare you the same pain.

    I do this too, but an editor didn’t tell me. I just noticed it. Like right there. Cut that shit out, me.
