Have you been to a sporting event in the last 10-15 years? Have you watched one on TV?

The last big military parade in Washington, D.C. was in 1991, after the Gulf War. The spoiled toddler in chief wants to play with his new toys, and by god the generals will provide him his parade!

Don't we already have a parade-filled holiday called Veteran's Day for that?

It will be helpful for getting us all ready for war against the Iranians.

I think that is what the Pentagon is trying to swing. 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.

And yes, I'm well aware that this country seems to be over-compensating in the love for the military - probably guilt from all the baby boomers who bailed on Vietnam, protested against it and suddenly began loving the troops as soon as they weren't eligible for the draft anymore.

But there is a difference between a generic "supporting the troops" and recognizing what has been accomplished and lost in the last 17 years. Hell, there are still generals who think they have the secret recipe that will solve Afghanistan.

Military parades are not a dictator thingy.

WRT the ones we all grew up watching on the TV news, it's a we-beat-the-Nazis-dammit-and-we're-going-to-celebrate-the greatest-victory-in-this-country's-history thingy.

The problem is we've been making fun of North Korea for a decade-plus for this same kind of thing.

I wonder if Trump is aware that the French hold that parade to celebrate the beginning of a revolution in which the country's leaders had their heads chopped off?
