Newsday has an opening for a New York Mets beat writer. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience covering a pro sports beat in a competitive market. We are looking for an aggressive sports reporter who understands the importance of filing and updating stories quickly and accurately to all our platforms. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to engage readers on social media and conceptualize stories that play well across all platforms.

Requirements:

• 3-5 years reporting, writing and multimedia experience in business working for major news outlets.
• Some video experience
• Ability to work in a deadline driven environment
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

I got a form letter acknowledging receipt of my application last week when I saw the listing on the APSE site.

 

Two major baseball beats open. I wonder which one is a better gig? This one or the Philadelphia Inquirer (Phillies)?

 

Philadelphia is the cheaper city to live in, which is an important consideration since both jobs will pay a barely livable salary.

 

Newsday is in a far more stable financial position than the Inquirer. And the salary should be quite satisfactory.
