Sports Editor | Gaston Gazette (Gastonia, NC)

The Gaston Gazette, an award-winning 18,000 circulation daily located in the Charlotte metro region, seeks a person to join our two-person sports staff. We are located within 90 minutes of the North Carolina mountains and four hours from the coast. The right candidate will be someone who can go beyond game coverage to bring our readers compelling stories about local athletes and teams. He or she will also have a creative edge to interact with a passionate online audience and help our web audience grow.

We consider all of our team members multimedia journalists who can write stories, shoot photographs when needed, and are expected to make videos and handle social media postings.

The sports beat offers an opportunity to interact with readers who care deeply about their high school teams and athletes. The right candidate will be able to work collaboratively with other members of our newsroom to execute a series of online initiatives. We cover more than 10 public high schools as well as a private college. We also cover community sports as well as outdoor recreation.
