Sorry. I got confused. I thought we were still talking about Manti T'eo. Guy I know who used to post here still thinks I dislike Deadspin because of that piece. I always tell him it was the one time Deadspin actually reported a story instead of copying and pasting.

    Typefitter-
Craggs pulled this public tantrum. Which as I recall was lauded on this forum.

2 Gawker Editors Resign Over Article’s Removal

This was in the midst of the ongoing Hulk Hogan lawsuit, which all would recall effectively blew up the site.

Maybe Mr. Denton regrets some of the control he handed over to juveniles, which led to an infantilization of the site that was not really there under Leitch.

They did a good job reporting the story up until their whole "on friend says he's 80 percent sure Teo was in on it" line, which was stupid and supported by literally nothing.

(Quick aside: I've never been more right in my assessment of a player's NFL prospects than I was of Teo, who is just a serviceable NFL linebacker.)

Scocca is the guy who choked badly on air when discussing the piece on MSNBC. He is a badass behind the keyboard but very very weird and awkward when he has to speak using his own voice and he made Deadspin look all kinds of silly in that live TV derp.

You and I both on T'eo. We could dig up the posts, I'm sure, but I remember repeatedly (and I think you probably agreed with me) noting that a ton of his college value derived from a ridiculous number of interceptions, and that was never going to happen in the NFL. Then Alabama ran all over him in the national title game. I'm actually surprised he's been as good as he's been - a consistent starter.

The T'eo-was-in-on-it line was really bad on Deadspin's part. And, if I recall, Scocca or Craggs or one of those guys doubled down on that theory, when confronted. And you know how it is with stories like this: Once people decide something is a certain way, it becomes very, very difficult to supplant that as the anchor. Looking at the initial thread here, @Alma called T'eo "Stephen Glass." @Azrael also thought he was in on it. And those are two of our smarter posters.

I had talked to T'eo previously, and kind of knew his disposition from recruiting before that and just from following that team, and it seemed very out of character that he would be in on such shenanigans. He's a pretty earnest guy.

There is absolutely something to be said for fresh blood and new perspectives, especially when it comes to diversity, in news organizations. But I believe with all my heart that said new talent should be under some seriously adult supervision.

Ugh. Don't tell me Teo chased Lennay around his apartment and rubbed his dick against her.

There is also something to be said against the very common practice of turning writers into editors, with the mistaken belief that being good at one will mean that you are good at the other. They are different skills. It's like saying a good finish carpenter should also be a good bicycle mechanic.

I think that Ansari behaved badly more than a lot of others do, I think, but I am also kind of glad that his career seems like it is going to basically survive this. I don't like to see people ruined, at all, especially at age 34. He seems like a decent guy. Hopefully he learned from this and we can all kind of move on.

Remember a few weeks ago when it was a big thing that someone posted a Hamilton performance on Pornhub? I sent that out to my friends and one of them said he saw The Big Sick on there in the interracial category.
