The Mercury News/East Bay Times is seeking a sports columnist who will write frequently and fearlessly about the Bay Area sports scene with a special emphasis on the Golden State Warriors, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants. Proven ability to make contacts and develop sources that yield must-read stories is a given. Strong social media, TV and radio presence is essential. Experience with podcasting and video is preferred. This person will be equally adept at the quick-hit take on the latest coach firing and the well-reported, well-sourced explanation that predicted that firing. The preferred candidate will have an insatiable need to connect to the Bay Area's most passionate sports audiences — and be comfortable reaching them on whatever platform or channel they frequent. If you think you've got what it takes to be the most relevant sports voice in the Bay Area, we want to hear from you at sportsgigs@bayareanewsgroup.com.

A's, Sharks, Earthquakes, Stanford, Cal, San Jose State, Saint Mary's College basketball, Santa Clara University basketball, international soccer events played at Levi's Stadium -- the list goes on and on. But the emphasis is on the Core Four.

Tim Kawakami and Marcus Thompson both left for The Athletic, freeing up some spots for new people. Lot's of interesting moves being made by Bay Area publications. Interesting to see where they go.

Can this job be done remotely? Like from Connecticut?

You'd rather live in Connecticut than the Bay Arena, Boogie?

Never been to Bay Area unfortunately. No, was more hoping I could just watch games and pressers on television and blog about them. Maybe as a side gig ;)
