If he's on the whistle when the Gators visit Rupp Arena, put your life savings on Big Blue to cover.

Congrats, Matt. Florida was the better team, much as it irks me to say that. If you're not a Florida fan, then Florida winning a national championship in anything is like the house getting a blackjack.

Still, from an LSU fan's perspective it felt like one of those series where they were running uphill the whole way and it just wasn't their week. They simply could not catch a break to save their life. The guy getting thrown out at second in Game 1 was a killer, and that play doesn't get made if the center fielder gets there a tenth of a second later. If he's safe, I think they probably go on to win Game 1. There was also a two-out hit in that game that put Florida ahead when it looked like Reynolds might get out of a jam with minimal damage.
Then tonight there was the interference call; the hit before that where the guy had to stop at third; the play at the plate in the eighth; and about a half-dozen hard-hit line drives that hung up there for the outfielders to get to, a couple of which would have brought in runs (including one right after the interference call).
And, on the flip side, Florida caught all of those breaks that you need to win a championship. O'Sullivan made the right gambles and they paid off, while Mainieri's didn't.
Just a frustrating two games for us Tigers fans. A combination of bad baserunning, great plays by Florida to take advantage of it, some coaching decisions that didn't work out and plain bad luck. I don't know that either team is appreciably better than the other one from a talent standpoint, but for these two days Florida was indeed the better team.
As the saying goes, that's baseball.

If he was like his dad, he'd throw wild pitches on purpose because he likes to hear the boos.

I'll accept that. A tough 17 inning loss in game 1 of the finals and Oklahoma was clearly better in game 2. But both teams making it to the final series is an accomplishment.

Florida joins three other schools with the men's national title triple crown (FB, BB, BASE), and the only one that doesn't have to reach back 50 years for one of the three titles.

And to think the only national championship Florida could claim when I graduated in 1980 was men's golf. The 1980 baseball team went 40-16 under Jay Bergman, had Steve Lombardozzi, Rob Murphy and Marc Sullivan -- and promptly went 2-and-out at home in the SEC championship. No at-large bids in those days. But the J-School had a whole bunch of Hearst winners!

If there's one thing for which Gators fans are known, it's their humility -- and affinity for long pants. It's certainly unlikely this title will change that.
