Sports digital reporter/producer -- Houston Chronicle

Chron.com is seeking a sports digital producer to report and produce multi-channel sports content with a focus on increasing digital audience and engagement. This role will be responsible for curating, creating and circulating digital, video and audio content for chron.com. The preferred candidate should be able to produce content and multimedia packages quickly that consistently drive digital audience engagement and traffic.

Responsibilities

• Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting sports content that is packaged and promoted in a way that generates interest and buzz.
• Be the first to report breaking news stories and always on the hunt for exclusive and or trending content that will drive traffic.
• Generate and execute compelling and engaging digital content idea, from concept to execution, multiple times a day.
• Excellent at writing buzzy headlines that increases unique visitors pageviews, and packaging content that grows pageviews per visitor and time on site.
• Evaluate website traffic trends in effort to make decisions on both daily content and longer term content development that will grow in-DMA traffic.
• Develop user-generated content – from comments, blogs and social, to photos and video – to create interactive digital packages that can be promoted in print and digital media.
• Promote and distribute news content on social media.
• Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social)

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of digital sports content creation; management experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of and interest in Houston and Texas sports.
• Solid appreciation of popular culture, e.g., “what’s cool” and assists with defining the tastes of Chron.com’s sports audience.
• Excellent headline writing skills, and strong understanding of search engine optimization.
• Work quickly and juggle multiple varied tasks during a typical work day; ability to work in a rapidly changing digital environment.
• Sports takes place on nights, weekends and holidays -- and those shifts will be regular and required.
