See, I knew we were going to get here.

I am not just amusing myself here. I'm not trolling.

The Tweet wasn't "racist," or at least, as I've stated, not necessarily racist.

I believe this, sincerely and 100 percent.

Kidding aside, I understand your greater point about the importance of word meanings. But certain words -- like ironic and racist -- become so bastardized and yet understandable in context that the muddying is irrelevant.

If Frei truly believes that the thing that can save his career and reputation is semantics over whether what he tweeted can be narrowly defined as racism or belongs in another bucket on the bigotry spectrum, then he doesn't get at all the gravity of what he wrote and why it was so damaging. And if a writer doesn't understand the power of words, he's useless.

That's an ironic stance on a thread in which the majority of posters are arguing that "racism" doesn't actually have to mean "racism."

Do you feel the paper was unjustified in firing him?

If Terry had any iota of sense about trying to get his job back, he would just STFU and let his attorney handle everything instead of providing an update.

Ironic and racism in the same sentence? Are you trying to confuse everyone?

IMO, it is borderline impossible for anything on Twitter to have gravity. It's nothing more than a free-thought, "say-whatever-stupid-thing-pops-into-my-head-at-the-moment" forum.

    And damaging? To whom?
    Other than him, of course.

To his paper if they had declined to act.
