One Way Out, the oral history bio of the ABB that came out a couple years ago, is essential reading.

How much did the Allman Brothers mean to Macon, Georgia?

I'm wondering what a death like this means financially for a band like the Allman Bros. How many more songs & albums have they sold in the past 24 hours than is the norm for a very successful band from a few decades ago. I see that A Decade of Hits is now No. 5 and Live at Fillmore East No. 8 on iTunes album chart.

One caveat, I willingly admit I don't know a thing about post-1990 or so music.

    CCR

    The Doors

The Byrds, if only for SOTR.

    Beach Boys

HM: Skynrd, Van Halen, REM. Chicago I don't consider a rock band, but they certainly are great. I can't stand the Grateful Dead.

    Just one guy's opinion.

Yes! BTW, everytime my "South Carolina" thread pops up now, I get "Hickory Wind" stuck in my head.

Great tribute to Gregg here from Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi and their killer band....
