That means 90% of kids at the dinner table who hate broccoli are Canadians.

Chefs have 100s of stories like this.

Diner will declare they can't eat gluten -- until desert comes.

This is another reason why all food allergy sufferers should dine with a loaded glock.

When I was about 10, my mom had made dinner that included green beans. I told her they would make me sick if I ate them. Skeptical, she said, "OK, just try a little. If you don't like them, you don't have to finish them." I had a couple forkfuls -- and proceeded to throw up all over the kitchen table.

I work in the food and hospitality industry now, feeding guests for a living. About 60 percent of them are children.

I would guess half of the allergies were are told about are parental preference or overprotection.

One kid had a half dozen allergies to his name, including food dyes and nuts. Later, I saw his dad buy him a bag of trail mix. I asked him about the contradiction, and he said it was the mom that had the apparent allergies so they just pretended they all had it.

We no longer serve nuts, by the way. Easier that way.

Also, if you see a gluten-free person order a beer, you know they're full of crap.
