The Newburyport Daily News is looking for an aggressive, enthusiastic sports editor who comes up with great story ideas while covering teams at six area high schools as well as youth sports and adult athletics.

Candidates must be able to multitask — previewing big games, turning compelling features, filing from the sidelines, writing weekly columns and taking scores by phone. We look to our sports pages not only for high school and youth athletics, but also for coverage of athletic activities such as running, biking, tennis, boating and golf.

This is a full-time job. Our sports editor writes multiple stories each day, prepares a daily sports budget, works with our photographers and news design desk, writes headlines, edits cutlines, assigns stories to a part-time sportswriter, and works closely with the editor of our newspaper as well as other sports editors in our North of Boston Media group.

Our sports editor is a social media whiz -- a fixture of local Twitter feeds and a regular contributor to our Facebook page. The sports editor posts stories and photos to our website, and produces videos, too. Candidates must be able to work comfortably across digital and print platforms.

The job regularly includes night and weekend assignments.

Please email resume and cover letter with salary requirements, along with examples of materials demonstrating your skills and experience to hr@northofboston.com.

If Newburyport is 35 minutes north of Boston, I'm checking in at 165.

Thirty-five minutes north of 128, sure.

Yes, The Eagle-Tribune (The Mothership) is in North Andover, but to do the job right you need to be in Newburyport - which isn't a bad place to live.
