    The Hobbs News-Sun is looking for the next addition to its award-winning sports department to provide the quickly growing and sports-loving readership the in-depth coverage they crave. The News-Sun, a 10,0000-circulation, six-day a week newspaper (no Monday edition) in Hobbs, N.M., and its two-person sports staff covers five area high schools, a junior college, and an NAIA university. In a coverage area of nearly 70,000 people, prep and small college sports are king, and we cover them accordingly.

    Teams in the coverage area, which includes the nationally renowned Hobbs High School boys’ basketball program, are competitive and regularly compete in the state playoffs in most sports.

    In the past two school years, the Hobbs News-Sun has covered two cross country team and individual state champions, a track team state championship, a basketball state championship, and individual wrestling and diving state champions. Additionally, we have had also other schools and individuals make deep runs in at the state tournament for basketball, football, soccer, softball, track, volleyball, and wrestling.

    The successful applicant will be expected to write game stories, previews, and features as well as providing strong insight and analysis on teams in his or her beat. Experience at a weekly or small daily paper is preferred, but not required. There will also be occasions when you are expected to help with page design, so knowledge of InDesign This position is ideal for recent college graduates who are looking for experience and are willing to be an integral part of our ever-improving sports section.

    We are located 90 minutes from Midland/Odessa, Texas, two hours from Lubbock, Texas, and two hours from Roswell.

    I think Hobbs has overtaken Roswell for frequency of openings.

    That sentence alone would scare me of from that job.
