I have his '60s novel on the Cowboys, "The Hundred-Yard War." An excellent read. Fun to compare and contrast with the better known "North Dallas Forty."

I just went to Amazon and ordered a couple of his books I didn't already have. And damn, he fell and couldn't get to a phone. Something like that is a fear of mine as I get older and continue to live alone.

I've always put him on my Mount Rushmore of outstanding Texas sportswriters of that era, alongside Blackie Sherrod, Bud Shrake and Dan Jenkins.
