    Remember the Reebok black hi-tops with velcro? Popular among NJ-NY guidos in the 80s to early 90s.

    Probably a lot. The Sears business model after WWII was that they would sell teir own brands. They got very involved in the production processes in order to ensure quality.

    Sears started as a hardware store and they always were really good in selling hard goods. They had huge market shares in hand tools, toys, appliances and televisions. But over time they have clearly lost that edge. They were kind of obsessed with the fact that they not as good at woman's apparrel as the department stores and spent enormous amounts of time and money trying to become more of a traditional department store rather than focus on what they did well. But it is cheaper to sell appliances, toys and hardware out of a big box. Sears also developed huge execution problems and was always struggling to get their computer systems correct, etc.
