    That wouldn't make you think the Earth is flat. That would make you think the Earth revolves around you.

    Thing is, we're in an age of such celebrity worship that people are actually...disappointed Irving thinks this.

    Now, everyone should be familiar with the phrase "looming on the horizon". That's an optical refractive effect similar to what causes mirages.

    I'll see if I can dig up a few examples and a wiki entry. If you know what to look for, this is very common. And it can also be seen near the poles as ice walls.

    One of my many interests is optical phenomenology, and sun dogs are also very common.

    There's a book by Greenler called Rainbows, Halos and Glories that I highly recommend.

    Has nothing to do with glory holes, in case your mind thinks like mine.
