Nobody better to write that tribute than Barry Jackson. RIP, Edwin!

Posted this on the journalism thread, but worthy here.

The Pontiff was great. I worked at 1 Herald Plaza for three-plus years and he, obviously, was an icon, even those many years ago. Whether he was at a UM or Dolphins game, the Super Bowl, the Masters, the Derby, tennis on Key Biscayne or the weekend he got the Pro Football Hall of Fame recognition.

Kind, gracious and never once big-timed me or anyone on the inside. If he wrote long, you made it work. Every word. It's Edwin frickin' Pope. If he wrote short, you made it work. If he filed late, you made it work.

Yes, he's beyond a South Florida legend.

    RIP.

A wonderful man who made every event he was at better to cover just because he was there. A dinner I had in Minneapolis with Edwin and Furman Bisher remains one of my fondest memories of my past career. So much laughter. Not today. RIP.

What a career. A sports editor at 15. Doubt I'll see the likes of him in my lifetime.

    RIP, sir.

I interned many many many moons ago at The Herald. Mr. Pope took time to show me the finer points of being a journalist. Always had a kind word to say and was straight forward. RIP.
