So, about DeVos <lifted from FB>

Here are some facts garnered from the Betsy DeVos confirmation hearing:

DeVos has donated over $200 million to the Republican party over the years, that's why she's been nominated. She's worth over $5 billion, which is more than Obama's entire cabinet COMBINED. She believes student debt has increased 980% over the last 8 years when in reality it has increased 118%. She has given tens of millions of dollars to gay conversion therapy organizations, which is a procedure in which they electrocute gay teens until they're straight. It doesn't work, obviously, and is ethically abhorrent and causes major mental health issues. She doesn't even know of the most prolific argument in the education community: the argument between the merits of growth vs proficiency, and lacked basic knowledge of many routine education terminologies. That's not surprising, though, seeing as she has NO experience in K-12 or education whatsoever.

She also has no experience overseeing a loan program, like she'd be expected to oversee the student loan program, and is so rich that not a single one of her family members has ever had to apply for any form of financial aid whatsoever to go to school. She also wants to raise the burden of proof on sexual assault by abolishing title 9 legislation and has donated over a quarter million dollars to do so, which would make it harder to prosecute sexual assault perpetrators on college campuses and remove protections for victims.

Finally, the ONLY policy she wants to establish is a voucher program to help move federal funding from public schools to charter and private religious schools, which not only is an indirect violation of several provisions ensuring separation of church and state, but effectively defunds an already underfunded public school system. She is on record saying that she wants to make public schools "God's kingdom" and bring religion back into schools and ban the teaching of evolution. If this does not cause you concern, consider how well theocracy is working out in the Middle East.

I'm quite sure the student loan program would be fine, even if a broke retired athlete were SecEd.

Random thought: future press conferences should have a game show-like name.

    I'm thinking "Stump The Trump".

Which is exactly why they want her in that job. They hate education.

The entirety of the argument defending her on this thread seems to be that she can't do much damage, either due to incompetence or the limited power of the position. That is one of the dumber arguments made on this board, that it is somehow acceptable to put the wrong person in a job if the person doesn't do too much damage. It also reveals a lot about the people defending the move. They know they can't defend her as a nominee, so they try to shift the argument. They talk about hate or overreaction or hysterics rather than simply admit that Trump nominated somebody who is unqualified and guaranteed to push an agenda that would severely damage public schools.

They check all the conservative boxes.
    Violence against women? Yes!
Contempt of public education as means to put their ignorant, science-denying religious beliefs into classroom? Check.
    Racism? Check.

The point is to damage public schools because they think they shouldn't exist
