    For coaches, I don't necessarily think it's the fairest way, but it's an interesting way to do it. They are always going to be a little chickenshit.

    I grew up in a tiny town that was roughly equidistant from three bigger towns with daily papers. The biggest of the three always considered our high school part of its coverage area, but we were among about 100 schools so didn't get a lot of attention. Still it wasn't a big surprise when our stud basketball player who was a year older than me made honorable mention all-area.

    What was more surprising was when one of the other papers, who had never even taken a call in of our scores, put him on the first team.

    It turned out the juco coach in that town convinced the paper to put him on the team because he thought it might help in recruiting him.
