As UPChip points out, there will be a few more "domino openings" after the bowl games -- one or two of the bowl losers always pull the trigger.

And of course the NFL carousel hasn't fired up yet, and that could affect the college coaching pool as well.

That's one way to solve the problem of the coach being hired away after 2-3 years.

Holy Shit. They had to have gotten someone better than him.

    Like the defensive coordinator.

Applewhite has been fired or demoted from both of his jobs as an FBS offensive coordinator, and now he's head-coaching material?

But I guess they need someone to placate the Texas high school football coaches.

    From the presser:

"When we set out on our search for the new leader of our football program, we wanted a coach with great integrity who believed in our mission and truly believed in our student-athlete experience," athletic director Hunter Yurachek said in a statement. "We had our sights set on a focused competitor who has demonstrated success and possesses a deep connection to college and high school football in the great state of Texas."

"and when everyone else said no, we decided on Applewhite."

Having mortgaged the future on getting a Big 12 invite, Cougar High may be trying to cap its losses.

In the Houston Horserace that consisted of Miles, Kiffin, Riley, Orlando and Applewhite........Applewhite would still be in the gate.

Lane Kiffin: I'm really excited to get to Houston where I can be a head coach again and go back to the AFC... What? AAC? God damnit. Somebody get Saban on the phone for me.
