    The Managing Producer is responsible for the development and distribution of pro sports news and information on our publishing platforms and the day-to-day management of the pro sports reporting team. This person will manage the planning and execution of relevant content and work with the reporting team to ensure they what they produce is up to standard in terms of quality. On a daily basis, this means maintaining staffing schedule relative to coverage needs, assigning and shepherding stories through publication and supporting live event (game) coverage in a hands-on way as needed. The Managing Producer will ensure that what their team produces is not only high-quality, but resonating with the audience, and will manage to corresponding objectives for their team.


    Required Education, Experience and Skills:


    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field required
    • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of management and/or team leadership experience required
    • Track record of effective collaboration with peers and senior leadership across departments
    • Self-starter, detailed-oriented and able to multi-task, meet deadlines and manage projects to on-time delivery
    • Proven experience executing, managing and supporting day-to-day beat coverage and larger stories on a topic
    • Working knowledge of Michigan pro sports teams
    • Ability to develop multi-platform, engaging and high-quality content that differentiates us from competitors
    • Savvy and adaptable: Understand the methods and tools used to deliver content across a variety of platforms and ability to leverage new ones as needed
    • Experience with metrics and analyzing their implications, align product offerings with audience
    • Familiarity with social media and experience using most relevant and prominent platforms

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


    1. Provide day-to-day supervision of reporters, including story assignment, story editing, constructive feedback, etc.
    2. Coordinate overall topic coverage and maintain staffing schedule to suit it
    3. Coach reporters through more complex projects and features and coordinate with relevant content leaders throughout state on shared or related initiatives
    4. Support live coverage, coordinating with other managers as needed
    5. Understand and manage to performance-based metrics for team and individual employees
    6. Serve as liaison between the digital content operation and print hub as needed, including sharing story plans and assets


    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:


    General office environment. Extensive computer use required. Some travel required. Ability to work flexible work schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
