Every time a team lines up for a field goal late in the half or game and has a timeout in its pocket, the announcers make it a point to say they can fall on the ball if there's a bad snap and call the timeout for another chance. I've never seen that happen in 30-something years of watching football. Not once. Not in the NFL, not in college, not in high school.
    Until tonight.
USC lined up for a field goal on first down with 6 seconds left in the first half against Cal. The snap was off line, the holder alertly fell on it, the coach called timeout and they got another chance. They missed it on the redo, but still ...

If you miss a FG on 3rd down you can kick it again on 4th [/stephenasmith]

When you think about it, a football coach is nothing more than an ex jock meathead who wasn't articulate enough to get into broadcasting. So we yell at kids to hit sleds instead.

Lost three followers on Twitter for posting "Pat Narduzzi can suck a fat dick."

Anyway, Pat Narduzzi can suck a fat dick. Go Hokies.

In the BYU-Boise game last week, BYU lined up for a field goal on 2nd down late in the game. It was blocked, but did not pass the line of scrimmage and BYU recovered. They ran TWO more plays after that.

Cal got screwed by Pac-12 Commish Larry Scott on this one. The Bears played last Friday then this Thursday, a six-day gap. USC had a bye last Saturday so came in after a 12-day gap. Such a discrepancy has never happened before. Scott said it has, so he lied. He basically said, "it's in the rules."
USC had a similar scheduling issue that Scott also lied about when it played at Tucson in a 12:30 game in which the on-field temperature was said to be 137. The conference has a rule about that. Scott said the rules state that there will be no afternoon games in Arizona "through the middle of October, so that one was OK." Uh, that game was on Oct. 15. Translation: TV told them to start at 12:30 so take an extra gulp of water and get your dehydrated ass on the field.

Same deal at the north end of the conference, Chris. How about an afternoon game in Pullman in November? Sorry fans and players ... you look great on the Pac-12 network braving those freezing winds on the Palouse for a 7:30 kickoff.

Hey, we have a 7:48 kickoff tomorrow night (with a possible 5-10 minute slide) in Microville. Since the Cougs will throw 75 times, we might have our first snaps ever after midnight!

The commish will be there too, spinning and spinning, like he always does.

In the Pac 12's quest to maintain relevancy/get more milk from the TV cow, they're the only P5 league to stage conference games on Thursdays and Fridays? Seeking to confirm something I saw on Twitter.

The ACC and Big 12 play on Thursdays.

SEC will sometimes play 1-2 Thursday home games a year beyond opening weekend and Thanksgiving.

But not on a scale the Pac 12 does, it appears.
