if they do, they need to move to smaller digs or make more money. you shouldn't be paying more than a third of your net income on rent or mortgage, that's the number I'd always been told and gone by.

They also said that in 1980.

    They were wrong.

The national average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $1,231/month.

The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment where I live is $2,190/month.

The national median list price per square foot is $133.

I bought my house for $314 per square foot, which is about average for this area.

In order to pay less than a third of our income on housing, we'd have to move at least 50 miles away, which would likely equal a 2-hour or longer commute for both of us, each way. Which means my wife and I would never see each other or our kids while we're awake. Ever. And, we'd probably only sleep 4 t0 5 hours a night.

Clearly one of the most embarrassing presidential campaigns in history. Clinton wins but it's like winning a Thursday night Jags-Titans game 13-9 because the opponent had 9 turnovers. She doesn't really offer much other than "more of the same" but I'll take that over Asshole Don.

I hear ya. I commute an hour and a half each way. I have my daughter 50-50 with my ex and I don't get home till 730 each night, so I have a babysitter to bridge the time from aftercare till I get home. But I only pay $985 in rent for a condo, where I'd be paying like three times that in the city where I work. I need to find a job closer to home, that's a fact, but I'll almost certainly be taking a pay cut.
