I think that's probably it. He was so into his own hype and image he couldn't stand the thought of any type of scandal getting out. Of course it's not only disgusting, it was stupid. He could dragged Sandusky to the police station himself and been a hero.

 

Best case is that Paterno was like the Catholic Church. Turned a blind eye and though it would go away, wouldn't suprise me if he told him to quit doing it and thought that would be enough cuz he was Jo PA.

Worst case is that he was a boy fucker too and liked to get some of it as well.
