In that 1984 finale at Washington, Cards trailed 23-7 at half and then went crazy in the second half. Lomax to Roy Green for the lead. Theismann hit Art Monk on a 3rd and 18 and Moseley booted the game winner to make it 29-27.

The Cards' last drive was poorly managed for time. They had to rush O'Donoghue out for a 50 yarder. Tough kick. I don't blame him for that.

In 1985, St Louis was the trendy pick for the NFC. They were 3-1 and then fell into a bad place. Ended 5-11 and Bidwill changed the locks at halftime on Hanifan.

    Giants boot their wife-abusing kicker.

As an aside, Newton is a Mississippi guy. From a now-closed Class 1A high school in Utica. Then he was a seventh-round draft pick from Arkansas State who had started every game for the Texans for the past four years. Hate to see it happen to anybody, but especially a guy like that who has beaten a lot of odds along the way.

Ah, yes, Hinds AHS, where they tried (and failed) to have a school the football team could be proud of. BTW, where do the Hinds AHS kids go now? Raymond?

Yeah, most of them are in Raymond now. Hasn't helped that program a whole lot.
The coach at Hinds AHS, Michael Fields, was a good dude. Hell of a small school coach and a great track coach as well. He wound up at St. Aloysius, a Catholic school in Vicksburg, and helped them reach a football state championship game the same year they won the state track championship.
