I'm trying to decide whether to find a marathon this fall. I did 16 miles last week at right around an 8-minute pace flat.

I don't think I'm going to. Not enough time to realistically qualify for Boston. I might run a couple more 5Ks and just generally work on getting faster.

Human speed has always fascinated me. Mostly because I've always been frustratingly slow. Even as a kid, when I was a small running back, the linemen would regularly beat me in the 40-yard dash.

I'm slow, too. My kid and I ran the 100 the other day and I ran a 16.82. It's all on the endurance for me. I'm slow, but I can be "slow" for a long time.

I'm sure Mrs. Whitman appreciates that.

Forgot to post here: Ran a marathon last weekend. 3 hours, 40 minutes flat.

Wow. Nice work, Dick. I haven't gotten into running quite yet, but I cycle quite a bit. Started off just mountain biking, then that turned into signing up for a race which brought me to buying a road bike to help train. A few years later and well many, many pounds later I find myself on an elite and amateur road cycling team as well as cross country mountain biking. This upcoming summer I'm hoping to do the Breck 100.

What kind of sadist dials this thread up on the night of Thanksgiving?

Are you in Colorado, I assume? My friend is really into cycling and lives out there. He does a lot of duathlons.
