They were and are a bunch of rednecks who pleasured themselves over the idea of "getting tough" and sending all the illegals back to where they came from.

True. That's the "yes" part of the equation.

But, it's a form of punishment.

It's no different than when folks want to implement some kind of luxury tax, or other form of punishment on the "rich", even though it will actually hurt the little guy, and not make things any better for them.

And, the folks they want to punish aren't the hard working immigrants, it's Nancy Pelosi, and her "sanctuary cities". It's the Chamber of Commerce, and their desire for cheap labor. It's the Republicans who ran on stopping Obama's executive actions on immigration, and did nothing about it. It's Republicans who said they would secure the border before agreeing to any reforms, but then enter into negotiations with Dems for "comprehensive immigration reform" that does nothing to secure the border.

We're not taking about very sophisticated voters. They feel they've been lied to, and their willing to drive the car off the cliff to punish the folks who have lied to them, and to get their attention. (Which is the same thing we saw with Brexit.) The extreme position is a backlash to getting lied to, and to the extreme position of the other side.

November: Trump mocks Jeb for using the word "fix"
Today: Trump "I can fix it!"

    No it's not.

It's the one constant in his life, and is something he's talked about for decades.

I know you've never read anything he's written, but I think Even @Dick Whitman, who's actually gone back and read his book(s) will back me up on this.

(Though maybe not this:) Trump is the least ideological nominee we've had in over a generation.

He's not married to any policy, or any partisan position. He doesn't care at all about social issue, which is extremely rare for a nominee from either party. He's interested in fixing problems -- in Making America Great Again -- and doesn't care what it takes to get it done.

In one sense, he's running for Mayor of America. He says he can plow the streets and pick up the trash better than the other guy, and that there is not a Republican or Democratic way to effectively plow the streets after a snow storm.

And they'll love it. They'll think he's just really smart. Like when all his business fail but he makes money.

They pay sales taxes and things like that.

But I assume an employer can't take out taxes from someone who doesn't have a Social Security number.

Talking to some co-workers. One has an inspirational quote from Nixon"dirty tricks" guy Chuck Colson, who went to prison for his Watergate involvement.

I teased her about having an inspirational message from a criminal. A right-leaning co-worker chimed in and said he wasn't a criminal.

    "But, he went to prison."

"Yeah, but that was petty stuff. He's wasn't a criminal."

    "Is Hillary a criminal?"

    "Yes."

"But she has not been convicted of anything or been sent to prison."

    "She's a criminal."

What makes you think they don't have Social Security numbers? They may not be legit SSNs, but they have them.

And their employers may not take out taxes to send to Washington or the state capital, but they can still "take out taxes."

Haven't you been doing a whole song and dance recently about how outraged you are that (you think) Democrats are condescending to working class whites?
