Parental codependency is a secondary drug heroin users get hooked on.

Would heroin addiction be curtailed if we all just stopped off at the drugstore for aspirin on the way home from the hospital, ER, or urgent care?

Don't recall details but it's in reference to another poster.

Not sure if you're referring to me or not, but I'm out of the newspaper biz and won't personally be doing any follow-ups. But that is a great idea for a story, if not a series of stories.

I don't think this has been posted yet. It's a little old, but it is an interesting read on the USA heroin crisis' ties to the Mexican cartels.

    From Esquire:
El Chapo and the Secret History of the Heroin Crisis

The author has done a lot of research and tells some good stories. I disagree with his take that the partial normalization of weed in the USA had increased heroin demand. I have read that the overprescription of legal pain killers was the cause.

Another side of the story is the children being left behind by addicts. My wife and I have looked a little into foster parenting in our area, where the demand has never been higher. That's 99 percent because of heroin and meth. It's beyond heartbreaking.

One pharmacy in Kermit, W.Va., population 392, took delivery on nearly 9 million hydrocodone pills over two years. And it had plenty of company.

Drug firms poured 780M painkillers into WV amid rise of overdoses

And the state (and to an extent the DEA) gave no fucks.

‘Suspicious’ drug order rules never enforced by state

I was impressed the WSJ gave heroin front page coverage on Friday.
