That was clear when he said that he didn't think he could get a DUI for driving while high. According to the story linked below, this means Bell has failed at least four tests. Between this and Bryant's year-long suspension, the Steelers' 2016 season could be going up in smoke.

Report: Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell faces four-game suspension

This ESPN blurb headline is remarkably accurate even if you skip the colon the first time through as I did.

Stephen A.: Smith should be banned for stupidity

Josh Gordon reinstated, will be suspended four games

Speaking of people who have been pissing away their careers, the NFL reinstated Josh Gordon, but with a four-game suspension to start the season.

The league released a letter Roger Goodell wrote to Gordon. He wrote about the support Gordon will get from the team and others, including Jim Brown, but put the responsibility for Gordon's future on the 25-year-old receiver. "I have every belief that you can make the right choices, but it is up to you to do so."

What has Gordon ever done to inspire any belief that he can make the right choices?

NFL, NFLPA announce policy to enforce concussion protocol

The NFL finally has some policy in place to discipline teams for failing to follow the concussion protocol after years of watching teams send players back onto the field when it was clear that they had some level of brain injury.

The league didn't exactly make a big deal about this, perhaps because the penalties are so weak? First offense comes with a a maximum fine of $150,000 against the team and remedial education for club employees or medical team members. Second offense is a minimum fine of $100,000 against the club.

There can be more due to "aggravating circumstances," but both sides have to agree. The league can require the team to forfeit draft picks along with more fines if "the Commissioner determines that the club's medical team failed to follow the protocol due to competitive considerations...."

So, it is still up to Goodell to make sure the teams follow the protocol, which he has not done at all up to this point.

That new policy looks like a show pony. It just isn't that easy to diagnose a concussion right on the field. The worst case ever was Colt McCoy, and I don't believe the Browns would have been subject to penalty based on this policy. They did make a good-faith effort to look at him during that time. They were wrong, but that speaks to the difficulty of diagnosing, not to any shenanigans on their part.
