    Are these obesity statistics?
    Did it list the demographic breakdown as well? (And, in Louisiana's case, count tourists to New Orleans?)

    The whole "poor people have to eat unhealthy because they can only afford fast food" could play into it:
    List of states by median income per Wiki knowledge. Lots of overlap.

    Of the 13 fattest states in the land, 13 are red and one (Ohio) is unpredictable.

    Ohio, and Columbus in particular, is known to be a test market representative of America before a chain takes off nationwide. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere, screw you, New York, New York.
