This was before my time, so maybe somebody here knows the answer, but why was Iba looked at as a valid choice in 1972?

He was close to three decades past his heyday as a coach. The game had clearly passed him by. From about 1960 on, his Oklahoma State teams mostly ranged from mediocre to terrible.

LB eternaluzed the trophy when he sat LeBron James on the bench because of. "Work ethic," then bitched about the composition of the roster even though he had been given approval rights over final cuts.

And how about a shout out to some of the older iconic teams:
    1. The A's and their $100,000 infield
    2. The Gashouse Gang
    3. Tinkers, Evers, Chance teams
    4. The Four Horsemen of Notre Dame

    Also
    5. The USC team under Carroll, Bush, Leinart and Snoop Dogg
    6. The University of Miami under Jimmy Johnson and Michael Irvin, Bennie Blades, etc.
    7. The UCLA program that won 88 in a row
    8. The recent UConn women's hoops teams (for those of you who aren't women haters)
    9. The Bad News Bears

Iba was ALWAYS the coach because USA basketball was a joke. They'd have made Rupp the coach if he hadn't been too big a racist for even 1968 America to swallow. Rockne's Notre Dame teams lost like nine games in a decade. They are way up there. Also, Bud Wilkinson's Oklahoma teams that won still-record 47 in a row need to be acknowledged.

I can still just about recite the batting order of the Big Red Machine teams by memory. They were on TV damn near every Saturday afternoon.
