Name recognition accounts for some of the southern black vote.

But...Sanders is a good fit for these times. He's a politican of minor consequence and achievement who promotes a Utopian worldview perfectly suited for people of this age, who want heart and pluck and moral courage and "sticking it to the bad guys." It's the Jon Stewart generation. Personally, I think Jon Stewart is a smug ass and control freak who couldn't run a mayor's office, much less a country, but people warm to guys like him and Maher and Oliver, with their giant teams of cherry pickers and researchers and writers telling us how the world works.

Sanders fits snug into that context. He has no solvency to most of his ideas. Who cares? He has the right feelings, the right sentiment. Free college? Sure! Breaking up the banks? OK! Foreign policy of being nicer? Yay!

Democrats are largely in an "all the feels" phase. Sanders hits that segment well -- especially in heavily conservative states in the Midwest and West.

If he were still around Anwar al-Awlaki would certainly attest to President
    O'bama's cold blooded, hard choices.
