The Team of Teams

Was eating at Mustang Harry's on 7th last summer and this baseball card collage graced my booth. I was 15 in '86, diehard Dodger and baseball fan so on this day, awaiting French Onion soup and a burger, I spent a good long time appreciating the names and the faces of the '86 Mets -- one of the all-time team of teams but not because they won a title but because you can say (or hear someone say) '86 Mets and you know exactly what the '86 Mets meant. They conjure a special time and place. Very few teams have ever captured that spirit.

Who are some others? Think about the essence of the question.

(And Mustang Harry's makes a pretty good bacon cheeseburger.)

'69 Mets. Miracle team that won and unified a city during the Vietnam era.

'55 Dodgers. Finally wins the title, then breaks their fans' hearts by moving.

    2004 Red Sox.

It was technically the '68 Jets, though the Super Bowl was in January 1969.

    61 Yankees. Mantle and Maris
67 Packers. Max McGee Super Bowl. Though IIRC the 66 packers were a better team

The 1962 Packers are widely regarded as Lombardi's best, but that was before the Super Bowl era.
