The Times editorial is very strong.

What Dems will call for Rahm's resignation? Whan will Hillary be asked to comment on whether Rahm should resign, and what will she say?

It's not a Times editorial. It's an op-ed by a University of Chicago Law School professor and criminologist.

My mistake. Shouldn't post while jet lagged.

Would be a bigger deal if it came from the editorial board.

The question should still be put to Dems. A prominent Dem Mayor, and former top advisor to the last two Dem Presidents, attempted to cover up the shooting video (and potential murder) of a young African-American by a cop.

That should be a big deal. Will it be?

I stand corrected, as well. I see that he's now a former Chicago professor and current Columbia University professor. I don't know what made him decide to take the demotion.

It seems to be an accepted part of the narrative now that Rahm would have lost his re-election bid had the video come out a year ago. Does everyone agree with that? It seems like if he came out strong against the officer and pushed hard for charges, it could have even helped his campaign and contrasted favorably with other hotspots like Ferguson.

I'm not sure he would have lost.

People do need to understand that Rahm wasn't running against a Republican, but against a fellow Dem, who is/was to the left of him.

The only way he could have lost was for a strong coalition of white progressives, Hispanics (his challenger is Hispanic) and African-American's to form against him.

So, coming out against a murderous cop might not have hurt him, but the incident itself may have galvanized support against him. Coming out agains the cop might not have lost him any white votes to his competitor, but it may have reduced turnout in an off-off-year election.

    Chicago Police Department To Monitor

All Interactions With Public Using New Bullet Cams

CHICAGO—In response to calls for increased transparency and accountability, the Chicago Police Department announced Friday that it will begin monitoring all interactions with the public by using new bullet cams. “To ensure that all contact between law enforcement officers and residents is properly documented, five megapixel, high-definition cameras will be affixed to our standard-grade 9mm Luger caliber ammunition,” said Chicago Police Department Interim Superintendent John Escalante, adding that the bullet cams will capture the majority of public interactions and store them in a database. “We’ve invested heavily to modernize our police force and hope that the initiative will eliminate any misunderstandings between citizens and law enforcement.” When asked whether the public would have access to the footage, a Chicago police spokesperson had no comment.
