    Experienced self-starter to take care of our sports section in our area, where outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking and more) are as vital to readers as high school and other sports. Photography skills a must. Page layout and design abilities preferred.     General Expectations include but are not limited to the following:

    Contact all coaches and players in a professional manner
    Attend as many games as possible
    Stories need to be written and edited by deadline
    Need to work as both an individual in the sports editor role while also being able to work as part of the editorial team
    Be willing to take suggestions regarding the vision for sports section
    Make yourself a trusted member of the lincounty sports community
    Include every school in the paper every week
    At least 1 feature story each week
    Rotate main feature from school to school
    Outdoors information – fish reports, fish of the week
    Offseason content – sporting events, outdoor features, coaches features
    Athlete of the week
    Previews in friday’s paper
    Roundups in wednesday’s paper
    Lots of photos and faces

    I assume not costing anyone a scholarship is an unspoken job responsibility.

    Just reading the way this is worded, its "talk down" nature of the phrasing, makes me think this would not be a very good place to work.

    Former co-worker and good friend of mine had the gig for about a year. I'd say your translation is pretty damn close. Oh, and he commented how it was always cold and windy being that it's on the coast. It would probably be nice this summer since non-coastal Oregon has seen so many 90+ degree days.

    Found myself in what I'm pretty sure was Seaside, Oregon, around this time last year. Further up the coast, but probably not that different. Remember that this was late August: It was so foggy and misty by the ocean that you couldn't see the water until you were almost in it.
