I really don't know what to make of the fact that it was DeskMonkey who commented on this one.....

I suppose twitter can be blamed for breaking a lot of things.....LOL.

I pride myself on a fairly extensive knowledge of geography, especially in North America. But this is one town and paper I have honestly never heard of until now. Gotta confess, I'd have to think twice before setting up residence in a place called Tarboro.

Ditto. A publication that has printed for 188 years is not considered sustainable.

    Sad day.

Charming that CNHI forced them to include the company line as the last paragraph.

Can't get to the site or the paper's Facebook. Is it gone already?

Yep. Web site gone already. They didn't waste any time. Sad. Tarboro, hometowm of UNC great Kelvin Bryant, without a newspaper.

You might see if you can find the Google cache for it.

The paper served a city of 13,000 people. There's definitely going to be a big hole to fill, but hopefully somebody will step forward.

I do wonder how many more towns of varying sizes are going to find themselves without a paper over the next decade.

My heart goes out to one and all affected.

As a CNHIer, I shuddered upon reading this...

The Rocky Mount Telegram is a few miles down the road and has always covered Tarboro.
