The EO sports desk — two dudes, a part-timer and help from the weekly up the road — covers 16 high schools, a junior college (Blue Mountain CC) and an NAIA school (Eastern Oregon University).

Pays a little better than other papers its size. Portland, Spokane and Boise are about three hours away. You can get to the Tri-Cities, an area with 200,000 people, in less than an hour.

The sum total of my knowledge of Pendleton, Ore.: In addition to hosting the rodeo, this is where Bob Lilly spent his senior year of high school after growing up in Throckmorton, Texas. He returned to Texas for college and went on to have a pretty decent career.
