Just read through all 13 pages again. Still amazed by that landing.

Hard to believe it's been five years.

Reading this thread from the start really heightens the fact of my biggest regret, that I didn't join the US Air Force like my father. Chesley Sullenberger really is someone to admire. I, too, can't believe it's been five years.

Has anyone read his memoir? I'm thinking of purchasing it.

A friend of mine piloted the first ferry to respond to the splashdown and said he was amazed at the level of calm among the passengers and crew in the crisis.

On day of episode I was on a US Air flight to Charlotte out of LGA that
left about 1/2 hour earlier. Landed in Charlotte, turned on my phone
and every means of contacting me started lighting up. At that point had
no idea why I was getting so many calls. Since then I've made sure to
provide exact flight #'s to everyone in a need to know position.

Still mezmerizing. Hard to believe it's been five years. Seeing David Poole's name a couple pages of back was nice.

Similar experience for me. I was commuting from AGS TO RIC that day via CLT. As a nonrev, that's the route I usually took. However there were times when LGA would come into play for me.

Plenty of texts as I deplaned as well.

How is this possibly nine years ago already?

A buddy of mine was a ship's captain on the first ferry to come to their rescue and was one of the people pulling the passengers up to safety. He became a composite character in the Tom Hanks film "Sully."

Still completely amazed by this. The audio of Sully calmly stating "We're going to be in the Hudson" the same way most of us would say "I'm going to the grocery store" is stunning.

Thought the movie was kind of meh. Obviously they had to create some sort of conflict, otherwise it would have been about a 90-second flick. But they tried to make it out as if the NTSB was gunning to pin blame on Sully. I don't recall that being remotely the case. There was just an investigation as there would be for any crash.

Still boggles the mind. One of the best "good news" stories of modern America.
