Just saw non-3D version of Gravity. Mind-blowing special effects and cinematography. Loved it.

Ha. That was what made it so awesome, particularly Matthew M.'s reaction to end it.

That was my favorite movie of 2012.

Saw Gravity at a little neighborhood cinema called Mann's Chinese Imax 3D in Hollywood.

Great experience...an amazing example of the art of moviemaking. Technically, ranks right up there with Life of Pi as textbook examples of craftsmanship.

That said, I was a bit underwhelmed by the story. It flows like a step-by-step documentary shot for NASA's public access channel. There was very little emotion, and you don't get vested in the story (that might be because Sandra Bullock is perpetually miscast IMO).

Cuaron should get director Oscar, editing Oscar, and the movie will clean up in the sound categories as well.

Captain Phillips - Nearly had a stroke due to the editing and hand-held cameras, but I suppose it had it's moments. Was expecting more activity on the captive ship instead of the heavy dose of military porn it delivered. Hanks did enough to get an Oscar nom.

"I Am Curious (Yellow)" was on Turner Classic Movies last night. I was stunned to see it in the listings. Groundbreaking stuff in 1967, and some day I'll win Jeopardy by knowing that it's the movie with both full frontal nudity and an appearance (no shit) by Martin Luther King Jr.

Because I love Halloween, I love watching all kinds of Halloween or scary movies, and damnit, I will not raise my standards! Jim Varney rules!

  9. My kids LOVE that movie.

I re-watched the Highlander last night.
The version on Netflix had some scenes I had never seen before; A WWII scene, where he finds Rachel and some extended scenes. Honestly, I was glad those were cut from the final product because - while they explained some things - it hurt the movie overall, creating more plot holes.

Is the whole thing shot with handhelds or just parts? I'll have to skip it if it's the whole thing or I'll be thisclose to vomiting about 20 minutes in.
