Allen West is just like Lincoln. I assume he doesn't want to get shot in the back of the head, though.

When households can create their own currency and get others use it as legal tender, I'll catch on to the notion that a country should be run like a household.

Um, does he know that Lincoln was re-elected in 1864? Never served the second term obviously, but he did have the impetus to end the war and pass tha 13tb amendment. I think the end of the Lincoln movie even shows his second inaugural address.

West is was Florida's Bachmann when it comes to quotes:

In other Florida voting matters, according to an article in this morning's Palm Beach Post, the Rs attempt to legislatively suppress the vote backfired in that it ended up motivating D voter turnout.

Seriously. Read this, and check the interactive map, to see why endlessly incentivizing business with local tax breaks is a huge problem.

    www.nytimes.com/2012/12/02/us/how-local-taxpayers-bankroll-corporations.html?hp&_r=0

Wisconsin's a great example. Governor Walker goes to war on teacher's pensions - while the state loses $1.5 billion a year in uncollected taxes.

    Crazy.

Surely there is one place where the strategy has been successful.
It's easy to point to the many places in the rust belt where it has not - where nothing appears to work.

Check the interactive. Florida gave up nearly $4 billion last year. Texas? 19 billion.

Which doesn't mean (per Hayek, pre-emptively) that wealth wasn't created elsewhere by having offered incentives to bring these businesses in. But was it worth it to have done so?

People should be trying to do their local math honestly, not ideologically.

West said Lincoln only served one term in Congress, not the presidency, which is accurate. Lincoln was only there for the one term because (here's a fun sign of the political times), he was among a group who had agreed each of them would only serve one term. I guess there wasn't much political opposition in their Illinois seat back then to disrupt their plans.

Lincoln also hoped to get a nice patronage job.
